Featured Facility: The Terraces

Posted on: February 5th, 2018 by Eric Hiam in Aged Care Services Facilities

“The Terraces” are situated in the highly sought-after suburb of Paddington in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. A brand-new, purpose built facility, it’s less than 500 metres to St. Vincent’s Hospital, less than 1 kilometre to Rushcutter’s Bay, and within 5 minutes’ walk in all directions are shops, café’s and galleries. We are fortunate enough to have a very large block –shared with the retirement apartment building- that typically would be used to hold around 50 terrace houses in this area, thus we have a lot of space and very large trees to enjoy. Designed to accommodate “Ageing in place” the facility provides respite, residential, dementia, and palliative care. There are multiple lounge, dining, and activity rooms, a hydrotherapy spa bathroom, and the majority of rooms have their own ensuite. There is also a modern “town square” café where residents of the retirement village, the aged care home, and visitors mingle and enjoy barista-made coffee and food.

In the dementia unit, residents reside in a secure environment to prevent wandering, whilst still allowing them to move about at their pleasure in safety. They also have a secure garden allowing them to enjoy the outdoors freely too.
Support & assistance is available for showering, dressing, medication administration & supervision, nursing and personal care needs, all provided by our highly qualified, dedicated, and experienced care staff and registered nurses who are available 24 hours a day. We also provide leisure and recreational programs that are designed to support, challenge, and enhance the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being of individuals. All laundry services and meals (made by an onsite chef, including specific dietary requirements) are also looked after.

Jessica Ferguson our Director of Care, has been a Registered Nurse for 11 years and in that time has gained far-reaching experience with a variety of nursing specialties. These have included over 15 months on a neurology ward, 15 months experience in remote WA, Team Leader of Family Services in remote Hermannsburg community in NT, and a RN in a 68 bed aged care facility in Alice Springs. Jess was destined for big things and so then became Clinical Care Coordinator in a 110 bed facility in Bundaberg, Qld whilst simultaneously undertaking a graduate certificate in Applied Gerontology. She then went on to become Clinical Manager at 2 facilities in NSW (109 & 70 beds).

For the past 4½ years Jessica has not only been Facility Manager at Presbyterian Aged Care (now at the very large 100 bed facility close to the city), but has been continuing her already vast scope of knowledge in completing a Masters in Applied Gerontology and a Master of Business Administration. On a personal note, Jessica has a beautiful heart, evidenced in her love of animals… she has 3 dogs, 5 cats, and fosters homeless kittens whilst they wait for a new forever home with her partner.
